Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of January 22, 2014.

Over the past week in the region:

  • After peaking in week 52, the number of gastroenteritis cases seen by SOS Médecins has been declining for the past two weeks. Outbreaks of gastroenteritis in nursing homes have remained at a very moderate level since a slight spike observed during the first week of 2014.

  • There was an increase in consultations for flu-like illness reaching the alert threshold last week for SOS Médecins and the Unified Grog/Sentinelles Network. Three severe cases have been reported by intensive care units since mid-December. The number of severe cases nationwide is higher than expected for the pre-epidemic period. A few isolates of influenza A virus have been reported at the Nantes University Hospital laboratory over the past three weeks.

  • The peak of the bronchiolitis epidemic was reached in week 52, and a significant decrease in emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations has been observed over the past three weeks.
