Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of February 3, 2023.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In the Pays de la Loire region, SARS-CoV-2 viral circulation and hospital and healthcare utilization indicators were at low levels.

Bronchiolitis

  • The Pays de la Loire region has been in the post-epidemic phase for bronchiolitis since S03.

  • In Week 04, the rate of emergency department visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age rose slightly to a moderate level, while SOS Médecins calls remained stable. The positivity rate for RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) isolates reported by the virology laboratories at the Nantes and Angers university hospitals continued to decline in S04, with low RSV circulation observed among children under 2 years of age.

Influenza and influenza-like illness

  • The Pays de la Loire region has been in an influenza epidemic phase since Week 49.

  • In week 4, emergency department visits and SOS Médecins calls for influenza-like illness remained generally stable after four weeks of decline. Emergency room visits were at a low level, while SOS Médecins calls remained at a relatively high level. Influenza virus isolates recorded by the virology laboratories at the Nantes and Angers University Hospitals continued to decline, but the proportion of type B influenza viruses was increasing.

Acute Gastroenteritis

  • Emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis (AGE) were on the rise in Week 4, at a moderate level of activity. Calls to SOS Médecins for AGE remained at a high level in Week 4, for the second consecutive week.
