Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of February 26, 2014.

Over the past week in the region:

  • The flu epidemic is still ongoing in the region, with a moderate number of visits for flu-like symptoms remaining above thresholds (SOS Médecins and the Unified Grog/Sentinelles Network) and isolates of influenza A virus.

  • Two new cases of severe flu since last week, bringing the total to 20 cases reported by the region’s intensive care units, the vast majority of which are type A. The age distribution shows a peak among people aged 40 to 64, as observed during previous seasons characterized by the circulation of the A(H1N1)p virus.

  • The season is characterized by a low number of reports of clusters of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes in the region.

  • The number of gastroenteritis cases seen by SOS Médecins remains moderate, as do outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis in nursing homes (which have been increasing over the past week).

  • Decrease in cases of bronchiolitis and RSV isolations.
