Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of February 18, 2014.

Over the past week in the region:

  • The flu epidemic continues, with the number of consultations for flu-like symptoms remaining above thresholds (SOS Médecins and the Unified Grog/Sentinelles Network) and an increase in isolates of influenza A virus.

  • In total, 18 cases of severe influenza, overwhelmingly type A, have been reported by intensive care units in the region, representing 8 new cases since last week. The age distribution shows a peak among people aged 40 to 64, as observed during previous seasons characterized by the circulation of the A(H1N1)p virus.

  • The season is characterized by a low number of reports of clusters of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes in the region.

  • The number of gastroenteritis cases seen by SOS Médecins remains moderate, as do outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis in nursing homes.

  • Decrease in the number of bronchiolitis cases in the emergency department at Nantes University Hospital and during consultations with SOS Médecins.
