Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of December 29, 2015.
Over the past week in the region:
After seven weeks of progression, the bronchiolitis outbreak has plateaued. RSV circulation remains active, decreasing in Nantes and increasing in Angers. This outbreak is having a significant impact on the number of emergency department visits by infants under one year of age, with 850 visits instead of the 445 expected in the region’s seven sentinel hospitals over the past week.
No circulation of influenza viruses and the number of gastroenteritis cases well below the epidemic threshold
A mass carbon monoxide poisoning incident was reported in Vendée during the month of December, affecting 36 people (27 of whom were transported to the emergency room, 3 were sent to the hyperbaric chamber at Angers University Hospital; no deaths were reported). The cause of this poisoning was the use of a barbecue in a closed garage during a birthday party.
Pollen season for hazelnut trees began in Nantes on December 24, with no significant impact on asthma exacerbations in emergency department activity or among SOS Médecins associations.
