Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of April 3, 2013.
Over the past week in the region:
Significant decline in the flu epidemic All activity indicators, except SOS Médecins, have fallen below the epidemic threshold. Flu viruses (A and B) continue to circulate. Since the start of the season, 70 cases of severe flu (including 11 deaths) have been hospitalized in intensive care units in the region. The most recent cases are due to type B viruses. Outbreaks of acute respiratory infections and gastroenteritis in nursing homes are declining sharply. Cases of gastroenteritis among children under 5 years of age have persisted for the past 4 weeks (SOS Médecins and the pediatric emergency department at Nantes University Hospital). These cases are associated with widespread circulation of rotavirus. Emergency department visits and deaths have returned to normal levels for this time of year.
