COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Pays de la Loire Region as of May 7, 2020

Key indicators

Individual Monitoring

  • As of May 7, 2020 (12:00 p.m.), 3,148 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by hospital and private laboratories to the ARS Pays de la Loire since the start of the epidemic

Community-based surveillance

  • SOS Médecins: 447 cases of suspected COVID-19 per 10,000 cases in week 18 (474 in week 17)

  • Community laboratories (including the 3-lab network): 5% positive test results in week 18 (5% in week 17)

Surveillance in long-term care facilities, including nursing homes

  • 1,848 cases (possible or confirmed) among residents, including 209 deaths in ESMS/Ehpad facilities and 60 in hospitals reported as of May 4, 2020

  • 1,474 cases (possible or confirmed) among staff reported as of May 4, 2020

Hospital surveillance

  • Oscour® Network: 530 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 per 10,000 visits in Week 18 (659 in Week 17)

  • Hospital laboratories: 6.4% of tests positive in week 18 (7.5% in week 17)

  • SI VIC data: 602 people hospitalized for COVID-19 (including 64 in intensive care) as of May 6

  • Sentinel intensive care units: Among the 256 reported ICU admissions, 52% of patients were aged 65 and older, and 63% had at least one risk factor.

Mortality surveillance

  • No significant excess mortality from all causes and across all age groups observed in the region during week 17 (April 20–26)
