Epidemiological Situation

Every year, an increase in gastroenteritis is observed in Mayotte between June and September. In this context, several indicators are routinely monitored:

• the number of consultations for acute diarrhea in children under 5 reported by doctors in the sentinel network,

• the number of visits for gastroenteritis recorded in the emergency department of the Mayotte Hospital Center,

• the number of sales of anti-diarrheal medications reported by the sentinel pharmacist network.

For several weeks now, an overall increase in these indicators has been observed on the island.
