Surveillance of conjunctivitis in Réunion. Epidemiological update as of February 27, 2015.
Epidemiological Situation
A surge in consultations for conjunctivitis has been observed among general practitioners on the island and in emergency departments. This increase, which is typically seen in Réunion during the rainy season, has been particularly pronounced in private practice since Week 8 across the entire island, with doctors reporting that the highly contagious condition is affecting entire families. The situation will be closely monitored over the coming weeks. Conjunctivitis has also been prevalent in Mauritius for several weeks, and a viral cause (adenovirus) has been identified in many cases.
