Epidemiological Situation

In Réunion, an increase in bronchiolitis is typically observed during the rainy season. It is most often caused by a virus called respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which affects the small bronchi. Since early December, the number of cases of this condition among children under 2 years of age in emergency departments has been rising, reflecting the seasonal increase in this condition.
