Leptospirosis Situation in Mayotte. Epidemiological Update as of February 11, 2016.
Summary
The number of cases in 2015 is comparable to the average number of cases typically reported without any specific detection efforts (2011 study, 2014 dengue outbreak). Over the past three years, the proportion of women and people under 20 has remained stable (one-third of cases). Agricultural activities and/or recreational or domestic water-related activities, along with garbage collection, account for the majority of cases. Walking barefoot was identified as the sole factor in 7 cases but is a possible mode of transmission for one-third of patients.
