Health Surveillance in Réunion. Bulletin of May 30, 2025.
Key Points
Chikungunya
After 5 weeks of intense epidemic activity peaking in Week 17, all indicators have been steadily declining since Week 18, confirming that Réunion is in the epidemic decline phase.
However, the epidemic level remains high on the island. Importation pressure into mainland France remains high, with no locally acquired cases identified to date.
Leptospirosis
Seasonal resurgence still ongoing Against the backdrop of a chikungunya epidemic that is declining but still active across the island, it is important to consider the diagnosis of leptospirosis to ensure prompt management (antibiotic treatment under medical supervision) and limit the risk of severe forms of the disease or even death.
Acute respiratory infections (ARI)
Circulation of respiratory viruses is increasing moderately without any public health impact.
Acute gastroenteritis
Surveillance indicators in primary care and hospitals (all ages combined) remain at a low level with a very limited public health impact.
