Health Surveillance in Réunion. Bulletin of February 6, 2026.

Key Points

Mpox

  • Confirmed and suspected cases of Mpox are currently being reported in Madagascar. In the event of any clinical suspicion (a person presenting with a rash or one or more ulcerations of the genital, anal, or oral mucosa suggestive of Mpox, whether isolated or preceded or accompanied by a perceived or measured fever (>38°C), lymphadenopathy, or odynophagia), the ARS La Réunion must be notified as soon as possible at: ars-reunion-signal@ars.sante.fr, particularly in cases of return from Madagascar or contact with individuals returning from Madagascar. These suspected cases will be discussed with an infectious disease specialist, and if confirmed, a request for biological confirmation with specimen collection at the University Hospital (South and North campuses) will be ordered. Affected patients must not go to private laboratories.

Leptospirosis

  • The onset of the rainy season marks the start of the usual period of seasonal resurgence of leptospirosis, with 17 cases reported since the beginning of the year.

Chikungunya

  • A few locally acquired cases of arboviral diseases have been reported since the beginning of the year. For chikungunya, 4 cases were reported in S04 and 2 in S05.

  • An increase in cases has been observed in Mayotte, and since the start of the year, 3 imported cases have been reported.

Dengue

  • Four cases were reported in S04 and two in S05. One imported case has been reported this year.

Flu-like syndrome

  • Health indicators are at baseline levels and stable.
