Health Monitoring in Réunion. Bulletin of May 15, 2025.

Key Points

Chikungunya

  • Since week 17, a decline in surveillance indicators has been observed, both in primary care and in emergency departments. However, activity remains high, with 10% of primary care visits and 5% of emergency department visits related to the disease. Furthermore, import pressure has been very high in France for several weeks and is expected to continue for some time.

Leptospirosis

  • A seasonal resurgence is currently underway. For healthcare professionals, it is important to consider and confirm this differential diagnosis in the context of a chikungunya epidemic, where the use of confirmatory laboratory tests is no longer routine. Leptospirosis must be treated promptly (antibiotic therapy under medical supervision) to limit the risk of severe forms of the disease or even death.

Acute respiratory infections

  • Circulation of respiratory viruses is increasing moderately without any public health impact.

Acute gastroenteritis

  • Surveillance indicators.
