Epidemiological surveillance of leptospirosis in Réunion. Update as of March 14, 2012.

In Réunion, every year during the southern hemisphere summer, there is an increase in leptospirosis infections. Leptospires cause clinical symptoms ranging from mild flu-like illness to potentially fatal multi-organ failure. Surveillance of leptospirosis in Réunion relies on doctors and laboratories reporting all suspected or confirmed cases to the ARS OI’s health surveillance and emergency response platform.
