Surveillance of arboviral diseases in Occitanie. Epidemiological update as of September 22, 2017.

In Occitanie, since May 1, 2017, 72 suspected cases have been reported in the 10 departments under enhanced surveillance: - no locally acquired cases have been confirmed- 21 imported cases (i.e., returning from areas where the virus is circulating) of dengue, 3 of Zika, 1 of flavivirus, and 0 of chikungunya have been confirmed- Confirmed cases of dengue originate primarily from Africa (Ivory Coast), Asia (Sri Lanka), and Oceania (French Polynesia)- Confirmed cases of Zika were imported from the Americas (Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador)
Nationally, from May 1 to September 22, 2017: - Since August 11, 2017, an outbreak of local transmission of chikungunya has been identified in a neighborhood of the municipality of Le Cannet-des-Maures (Var). As of September 15, 2017, 7 confirmed cases and 2 probable cases were identified in this municipality, as well as 2 new local cases (confirmed by PCR) in the municipality of Taradeau, located approximately 10 km from Le Cannet-des-Maures. An epidemiological link between these two outbreaks has been established through investigations. – 111 imported cases of dengue (i.e., from travelers returning from areas where the virus is circulating), 9 cases of Zika, 4 cases of flavivirus, and 2 cases of chikungunya have been confirmed.
Internationally, two outbreaks of local transmission of chikungunya have been identified in Anzio and Rome, two cities in the Lazio region of Italy.
