Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of November 27, 2014.

Key Points

  • Bronchitis: The number of bronchitis diagnoses made by doctors from the SOS Médecins associations in Nîmes and Perpignan remains higher than in previous years.

  • Gastroenteritis: no particular trend in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

  • Asthma: Use of emergency rooms and SOS Médecins associations was high in weeks 46 and 47 of 2014, both in the Languedoc-Roussillon region and across France.

  • Surveillance of chikungunya and dengue: since the start of enhanced surveillance, 241 suspected cases of chikungunya or dengue have been reported. Of these, 77 were confirmed as chikungunya and 23 as dengue; these cases contracted the disease while traveling in an endemic area (imported cases). To date, apart from the cluster of 11 linked cases in the same neighborhood of Montpellier, no other indigenous cases of chikungunya or dengue have been identified in Languedoc-Roussillon. The surveillance system ends on November 30.
