Monitoring of Hospital Activity:

Department-by-department analyses show occasional instances where the statistical thresholds for total emergency room visits were exceeded. However, it should be noted that for certain facilities in particular, the recorded numbers were very close to the thresholds.

Monitoring of seasonal epidemics:

  • Flu: The epidemic continues to subside; the regional incidence rate was estimated at approximately 230 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in week 2012-10, compared to just over 40 in week 2012-09, according to the Unified Network of Grog and Sentinelles (threshold = 131). Overall use of emergency departments and SOS Médecins services is also decreasing. However, the number of outbreaks of acute respiratory infections in elderly care facilities is rising again this week, with 6 outbreaks already reported.

  • Gastroenteritis: the incidence rate estimated by the Sentinelles network is at the national epidemic threshold. However, visits to emergency departments remain frequent, as do requests for assistance from doctors at SOS Médecins associations.

  • Pneumonia and bronchitis in people aged 75 and older: the number of cases for these conditions is decreasing and approaching the levels typically observed at this time of year.

  • Bronchiolitis: case numbers continue to decline.

Measles monitoring:

As at the national level, Languedoc-Roussillon has seen a slight resurgence in the number of reported cases during weeks 2012-06 through 2012-09
