Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of January 30, 2014.

Key Points

  • Influenza: increasing activity in the Languedoc-Roussillon region; two new severe cases of influenza in intensive care have been reported: one in Gard, and the other in Pyrénées-Orientales (unvaccinated individuals with at least one risk factor); similar trend at the national level; the A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2) viruses are predominant;

  • Gastroenteritis: activity is decreasing in the region; the Sentinelles network estimates that the incidence rate has fallen below the epidemic threshold, but other indicators remain at a high level; across France as a whole, the epidemic has not yet begun according to the Sentinelles network, but indicators are trending upward;

  • Bronchiolitis: the epidemic is still active in the region, but the number of cases remained stable in week 2014-04; activity remains high in France.

  • Hospital capacity constraints: Several facilities in the region have reported capacity constraints and difficulties in finding beds in downstream care facilities.
