Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of December 27, 2012.

Surveillance of Seasonal Illnesses

  • Bronchiolitis: high activity; emergency room visits increased by another 30% between weeks 50 and 51 of 2012 in the Languedoc-Roussillon region; the epidemic continues to subside in France;

  • Influenza: activity on the rise; although the regional incidence of influenza remains below the epidemic threshold for the unified network, visits to emergency departments and SOS Médecins for flu-like symptoms are rising sharply in Languedoc-Roussillon. The national influenza epidemic threshold was crossed for the first time this week at the national level, which could lead to the declaration of the start of the epidemic as early as next week;

  • Gastroenteritis: moderate activity; only SOS Médecins data report a significant number of gastroenteritis diagnoses and frequent calls regarding this illness.
