Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of December 2, 2011.

Hospital Activity: Over the course of the week, several indicators exceeded statistical thresholds, particularly in the Gard department. These exceedances were observed in various public hospitals, with some reporting strain on hospital resources and others not. Facilities have experienced a combination of high scheduled activity, increased activity in certain departments in anticipation of the Christmas holidays, and a rise in patient visits related to seasonal illnesses. Isolated instances of exceeding thresholds have also been observed in other departments, but have not yet been confirmed or denied by the facilities concerned.
Monitoring of seasonal illnesses:
bronchiolitis: a gradual increase in the number of cases seen in emergency departments, barely exceeding the regional statistical threshold in week 2011-47.
Influenza: Data from the unified network show an increase in the incidence of influenza-like illnesses in the region; however, values remain below the threshold, and visits to emergency departments for this condition are infrequent.
Gastroenteritis: Data from the Sentinelles and Grog networks show an increase in the incidence of cases in the region, as well as an exceedance of the national threshold; activity related to this condition is slightly increasing for SOS Médecins as well as in emergency departments between weeks 2011-46 and 47.
