Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of August 9, 2012

Key points:

  • Hospital Activity: A few instances of exceeding thresholds were observed over the weekend, particularly regarding first-time visits to emergency departments. In Lozère, hospitalizations and emergency department visits among those aged 75 and older exceeded thresholds on August 3. Indicators returned to normal levels the following day.

  • Summer surveillance: No particular trends.

  • Vector-borne disease surveillance: Over the past 7 days, 6 new reports of suspected chikungunya/dengue cases were received. Results are pending for 4 suspected cases. Among the 73 reports received, 2 cases of chikungunya and 5 cases of dengue were confirmed; all had returned from travel to areas where these diseases are endemic.
