Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées. Epidemiological Update as of January 27, 2016.

Key Development

Flu Epidemic: Start of the Epidemic in the Region In Week 3 of 2016, the start of the flu epidemic was announced in Brittany, and it is expected to quickly spread to 11 other regions, including Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées, which are currently in the pre-epidemic phase. In fact, overall, an increase in all indicators is observed across the region, whether in outpatient or inpatient care. Regarding vaccination coverage among at-risk populations (individuals of all ages with certain chronic conditions and those aged 65 and older), this was estimated at 47% as of December 31, 2015 (provisional estimate based on CNAMTS vaccine reimbursement data). Coverage remains far below the 75% target set by the WHO. It is important to emphasize the importance of vaccination for at-risk individuals. Even if an outbreak has begun in a region, there is still time to get vaccinated.
