Heat Wave Monitoring in the Midi-Pyrénées Region. Epidemiological Update as of August 22, 2012

Weather Overview: Today, high temperatures are on the decline. Compared to yesterday, Tuesday, temperatures have dropped by about 3 to 4 degrees in the Rhône and Isère departments, with highs ranging from 31 to 34 degrees. Elsewhere, it remains warm but with lower temperatures than those observed in recent days. Tonight, minimum temperatures will also drop, generally ranging between 18 and 20 degrees in the southern half of the country. For tomorrow, Thursday, a slight rise in maximum temperatures of about 1 to 2 degrees is expected across all regions; however, we will not see the high temperatures observed last weekend. Starting Friday, temperatures will begin to drop even more sharply.

Health Context: The number of emergency room visits and hospitalizations following emergency room visits recorded in mainland France between Thursday, August 16, and Monday, August 20, 2012, remains stable compared to previous weeks. Starting August 16, a moderate and normal increase in the number of visits for heat-related conditions has been observed in the emergency departments of the OSCOUR® network.
