Heat Wave Monitoring in the Midi-Pyrénées Region. Epidemiological Update as of August 18, 2012

Today and tomorrow are expected to be the two hottest days, with lows of 19 to 21°C and highs of 37 to 40°C. Yesterday, maximum temperatures ranged from 35 to 39 degrees, with, for example, 37 in Toulouse, 37.6 in Albi, and 39 degrees in Agen, Auch, Bergerac, Bordeaux, and Biarritz. Last night, temperatures dropped very slowly, and at 5 a.m. temperatures ranged between 20 and 25 degrees; it was 21 in Agen, 23 in Toulouse, 24 in Auch, 25 in Albi, and even 27 in Castres with an Autan wind. Today, temperatures are similar to yesterday’s or slightly higher. Highs will generally reach 37 to 40 degrees, and locally up to 41 degrees in the Lot, Lot-et-Garonne, and Tarn-et-Garonne. Note that from the Toulouse area southward to the Tarn, due to a moderate Autan wind, minimum temperatures will be higher, but maximum temperatures will be slightly more bearable. Minimum temperatures tonight will be higher than last night, often ranging from 21 to 24 degrees, and even 25–26 degrees in urban areas. The night from Sunday to Monday will still be warm, with lows between 19 and 21°C. On Monday morning, temperatures will remain high: 17 to 22°C, but by the afternoon they will have dropped a few degrees compared to the previous day, though still ranging between 32 and 38°C.In the coming days, the hot, summery weather will continue, though temperatures will generally be lower than those of this weekend. This heat wave will last at least until tomorrow, and possibly through next Tuesday or Wednesday, despite a slight temporary drop in temperatures on Monday.
