Health Surveillance in Occitanie. Epidemiological Update as of February 21, 2017.

Key Points

Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: The decline in influenza activity continues in the Occitanie region; week 07-2017 is marked by a significant decrease in emergency medicine indicators in both urban and hospital settings, indicating the end of the epidemic. However, the influenza virus is still circulating to a lesser extent and may cause cases. Caution is therefore still warranted, particularly when clinical signs suggestive of influenza appear in at-risk individuals.

Bronchiolitis (in children under 2 years of age): The Occitanie region remains in the post-epidemic phase, due to the numerous emergency department visits for bronchiolitis and hospitalizations still observed through week 7.

Gastroenteritis: Since week 05-2017, which was marked by a peak in the number of gastroenteritis cases diagnosed in emergency departments across the Occitanie region, there has been a decrease in the number of emergency department visits for this illness, a trend also observed in primary care settings.
