Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of November 10, 2011.
News
For about a week now, there has been an increase in hospitalizations in the Aude department, although the indicator has not exceeded the statistical thresholds calculated for the department. This trend has been observed in particular at the Carcassonne Hospital Center. Other isolated instances of thresholds being exceeded have been noted, with indicators quickly returning to their baseline levels. Following a long weekend that led to a general increase in activity at emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics, all indicators have returned to their usual baseline levels.
Monitoring of seasonal epidemics:
bronchiolitis: the outbreak continues in France, though it has not yet begun in the region;
influenza: cases remain sporadic, regardless of the data source considered; no severe cases of influenza were reported this week in our region;
gastroenteritis: cases remain few in number, and both national and regional incidence rates are below the national threshold defined by the Sentinelles network. However, SOS Médecins data show an upward trend for this condition at the national level, which is not yet reflected in local data.
