Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of August 9, 2013.

Key Points

  • Emergency department activity in the region remains higher than in previous years, but to a lesser extent than the previous week (+8% compared to the average of the previous 3 years).

  • Diagnoses recorded in the heat-related indicator (dehydration, heatstroke, or hyponatremia) are stable compared to week 2013-30. Although the number of diagnoses has decreased slightly, heat-related illnesses remain among the most common reasons for emergency department visits.

  • Respiratory diseases: the number of pneumonia diagnoses made in emergency departments is low but slightly increasing; cases of dyspnea and respiratory failure are slightly increasing, but at levels well below those observed in fall/winter;

  • Gastroenteritis: visits to emergency departments are stable and at baseline levels, and visits to SOS Médecins clinics are trending downward.
