Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of August 23, 2012

Key points:

  • Emergency Department Activity: Indicators remained at levels expected for this time of year

  • Syndromic groupings monitored (emergency department visit summaries)- Heat-related conditions: In week 2012-33, data show a slight increase in the number of emergency department visits for heat-related conditions (hyperthermia, heatstroke, dehydration, or hyponatremia). However, the number of cases remains low (27 visits during the week across the 11 emergency departments comprising the analyzed sample) and is in line with expectations for this hot weather period. - Gastroenteritis: Low activity - Asthma: Low activity

  • Vector-borne diseases: Over the past 7 days, 8 new reports of suspected cases of dengue or chikungunya have been received. Among these, only 1 case of imported dengue has been confirmed. Surveillance and vector control measures have been implemented around each suspected imported case. No locally acquired cases have been reported to date.
