Health Surveillance of Arboviral Diseases in the Occitanie Region. Epidemiological Update as of June 21, 2021.

Key Points

From May 1 to November 30 each year, Santé publique France coordinates, in conjunction with the relevant Regional Health Agencies (ARS), enhanced seasonal surveillance of chikungunya, dengue, and Zika in mainland France, where the vector mosquito, Aedes albopictus, is expanding its range.

In Occitanie, since May 1, 2021, 11 imported cases of dengue have been confirmed: the individuals involved had returned from Réunion (10) and French Guiana (1). No cases of chikungunya or Zika have been identified.

To limit the risk of local transmission, 15 entomological surveys and 6 vector control treatments were carried out in the vicinity of these cases.

Nationwide, from May 1 to June 18, 2021, the following were confirmed:

  • 48 imported cases of dengue, including 41 from Réunion

  • 1 imported case of chikungunya

  • 0 imported cases of Zika
