Key points
Mortality: observed numbers below expected levels for this period.
Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: increased activity in emergency departments among children under 1 year of age and adults aged 75 and older, with figures above expected levels for this period.
Virology: The number of positive respiratory virus samples from the laboratories at the Bordeaux, Limoges, and Poitiers University Hospitals decreased in week 16 (49 positive samples). At the Poitiers University Hospital, of the 34 positive samples, the majority were for rhinovirus/enterovirus (10 samples) and bocavirus (6 samples). At the Bordeaux University Hospital, of the 9 positive samples, the majority were Parainfluenza (3 samples) and rhinovirus (5 samples). At the Limoges University Hospital, of the 6 positive samples, 2 were Rhinovirus/Enterovirus and 2 were RSV.
Gastroenteritis: activity is stable or declining according to SOS Médecins and Oscour® data, with values close to expected levels, below the alert thresholds for both data sources.
Notifiable diseases (NDs):
- An increase in sporadic cases of hepatitis A among males has been observed in the region since early 2017.
- An increase in reported measles cases in the region since January 2017 confirms that the virus is actively circulating in several departments within the region. A cluster of cases has been identified (10 reported cases) in the municipality of Dorat (87).
Allergies: The increase in allergy-related activity continues, accounting for 4.2% of SOS Médecins’ activity in week 16. Nationally, the increase continues (with activity stabilizing among children), exceeding levels from the previous two years. Note: birch pollen levels are down sharply (with a very low risk), and oak pollen is present throughout the region (with a moderate risk).
Chickenpox: activity for chickenpox at SOS Médecins is slightly down, with a proportion below expected seasonal levels. Moderate activity nationwide according to the sentinel network.
