Mortality: The number of deaths (all ages and those aged 75 and older) is in line with expected levels for this period.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: Emergency room visits by those aged 75 and older remain slightly above expected levels for this period. No significant changes were observed for children under 1 year of age.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situations were observed in August.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillanceSince May 1, when enhanced surveillance began in Lot-et-Garonne and Gironde—where the tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is established—110 suspected cases have been reported. Among these, 42 cases of chikungunya, 19 cases of dengue, and 2 co-infections have been confirmed, all of which were imported. On August 20, 2014, the first case of locally acquired dengue was identified in the Var department.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)Activity is slightly up and in line with expectations, according to SOS Médecins and Oscour®, in Aquitaine (all ages combined) as well as in France (children).

Asthma and Allergies: Activity is stable for allergies and declining for asthma in Aquitaine, according to SOS Médecins and Oscour®; activity is slightly increasing in France. Forecast: low allergy risk in Aquitaine.

Heat-related illnessesThe Heat Wave and Health Alert System (SACS) was lifted on August 31. This season was marked by a heat wave across the entire region between July 15 and 17. No heat wave alerts were issued this season.

Enterovirus meningitis: Circulation of the virus since week 26 in Aquitaine, according to Oscour® and the virology department at Bordeaux University Hospital.

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document) Since July, in Aquitaine, 9 cases according to CAPTV and 2 according to Oscour® (359 and 165 in France) (data to be consolidated).
