Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of February 6, 2014.
Mortality:
The number of recorded deaths continues to rise, with figures remaining above the alert threshold. The same trend was observed during the same period last year in Aquitaine.
Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations
The number of emergency room visits among children under 1 year of age remains high in S05. No significant changes for those aged 75 and older.
Reportable Diseases (MDO)
No significant changes this week in Aquitaine.
Virology and enterovirus
meningitis Circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses according to the Bordeaux University Hospital, notably RSV, influenza A, and rhinovirus; enterovirus meningitis remains stable according to Oscour®.
Acute gastroenteritis (AGE)
In Aquitaine, activity is declining according to the Oscour® network and SOS Médecins. Indicators have stabilized at the national level, with values in line with expectations for the period.
Influenza and influenza-like illnesses
In Aquitaine, as in mainland France, a sharp increase in the number of consultations for influenza-like illnesses.
Bronchiolitis
Another decline in bronchiolitis diagnoses in Aquitaine according to SOS Médecins, Oscour®, and the AquiRespi network, with 147 children treated on February 1–2. Activity is stable at the national level.
Carbon monoxide poisoning
Since September 2013, 31 incidents (+4 in the last 15 days) affecting 71 people, 50 of whom were transported to emergency rooms (nationwide: 765 incidents, 2,356 people affected, and 22 deaths).
School Absenteeism Overall
absenteeism rate slightly up. Several cases of flu-like illness and a few cases of gastroenteritis reported.
