Heat Waves and Health in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Bulletin dated July 1, 2025.
Key Points
Weather Conditions
Following the heat wave that affected the region on June 21, a new heat wave is currently underway, with all departments in Nouvelle-Aquitaine placed under an orange heat wave alert on June 29, 2025. As of July 1, 2025, the heat wave is still ongoing, with the Vienne department under a red alert.
Analysis of syndromic indicators
The use of emergency care for all causes (Oscour® hospital emergency rooms and SOS Médecins), across all age groups and among those aged 75 and older, remained within the usual fluctuations for the period.
An increase in activity at SOS Médecins and hospital emergency departments for the iCanicule indicator (hyperthermia, dehydration, and hyponatremia) has been observed since the start of the heatwave. All age groups are affected, but higher utilization is recorded among people aged 75 and older (hospital emergency departments) and among children under 15 (SOS Médecins). Activity levels are higher than those recorded last summer and, for the moment, close to the levels observed during the August 2023 heat wave.
