Heat Wave Monitoring in the Poitou-Charentes Region. Epidemiological Update as of August 20, 2012

According to Météo-France, high temperatures will be slightly lower than the previous day but will reach 32 to 37°C in the afternoon across northern Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes, and 30 to 34°C in Burgundy. Temperatures will thus drop by a few degrees compared to yesterday, but they will remain very high for late August. In Poitou-Charentes, maximum temperatures will reach 31°C in Vienne and Deux-Sèvres, and 32°C in Charente. Biometeorological thresholds will not be reached or exceeded today or in the coming days. Météo-France recommends downgrading the alert from Orange to Yellow for Charente and maintaining the Yellow alert for Vienne.Analysis of hospital emergency room activity shows a non-significant increase in emergency room visits for all causes in Charente and Deux-Sèvres. The Heat indicator decreased on August 19 compared to the previous day (11 visits vs. 19 on August 18).
