Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of May 29, 2014.

Mortality:
The number of deaths recorded based on vital statistics data (all ages and those aged 75 and older) is comparable to the expected number for this period.

Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations
Activity remains stable for those aged 75 and older and those under 1 year of age.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)
No particular situation to note since the beginning of May.

Surveillance of chikungunya and dengue
Resumption of the accelerated reporting and biological confirmation system for suspected imported cases of chikungunya and dengue from May 1 to November 30, 2014; in mainland France, the Aedes albopictus mosquito has gradually established itself in several departments in southern France, including Lot-et-Garonne and Gironde.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)
According to Oscour® and SOS Médecins, activity is low in Aquitaine, in line with expectations; indicators are slightly up nationally according to Oscour®, in line with the season.

Asthma and Allergies
Activity according to Oscour® and SOS Médecins in Aquitaine continues to rise for asthma and remains stable for allergies; forecast: high allergy risk (grass pollen) for all departments. Indicators are rising nationally.

School Absenteeism
Overall rate stable. No major health-related causes reported.
