Headlines - Regional Cancer Incidence Estimates, 2008–2010
Due to differences in estimation methods and significant methodological limitations associated with previous estimates of regional cancer incidence, the partners responsible for producing regional incidence estimates (the French Cancer Registry Network Francim, the Biostatistics Department of the Hospices Civils de Lyon, InVS, and INCa) have decided to remove from the InVS website the regional estimates previously produced using mortality data and data from the Francim network’s registries. These estimates, produced for the years 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, and 2005, are being replaced by new estimates covering the 2008–2010 period. These were produced using data from the Francim network registries and, depending on the cancer in question, either ALD data, PMSI data, or mortality data. The 2008–2010 estimates have undergone scientific validation. Consequently, the new regional estimates cannot be compared with the previous ones. For the same reason, they are difficult to compare with the 2010 national incidence estimates published in July 2013, which were obtained using mortality data and data from the Francim network registries.
