As part of the 2012 NOYADES survey, the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) recorded 409 accidental drownings between June 1 and July 26, 172 of which resulted in death—an average of 3 deaths per day. Of these 409 cases, 47% occurred at sea, 15% in swimming pools (all types combined), 11% in bodies of water, 22% in rivers and streams, and 5% in other locations (bathtubs, ponds, etc.). As a reminder, the 2012 DROWNING SURVEY began on June 1 and will end on September 30, 2012. Any person or organization involved in emergency response is invited to participate, and data is collected via a questionnaire available on the InVS website.
