Health Monitoring During the Heat Wave in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Update as of July 19, 2022.

Key Points

  • Since July 12, 2022 (when the Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne departments were placed under an orange alert), a heat wave has been affecting the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region; it has intensified in recent days, with an extreme heat wave prompting seven departments to be placed under a red alert on July 17, 2022.

  • Healthcare utilization for the iCanicule composite indicator: increased activity at emergency departments and SOS Médecins for the iCanicule composite indicator during this episode (for people aged 75 and older, and all ages). In total, 192 emergency room visits and 97 SOS Médecins interventions related to iCanicule were recorded during the alert period [July 12–18]. The level of activity observed in both networks remains within typical ranges for these weather conditions and is lower than that observed during the July 2019 heatwave.
