COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Nouvelle-Aquitaine as of September 2, 2021

In week 34 of 2021, the slowdown in SARS-CoV-2 transmission was confirmed in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, with a decrease in all epidemiological indicators. However, the epidemic remains at a high level, with active transmission of the virus throughout the region.
In week 34, 6,944 new cases were confirmed in the region, compared to 9,352 in week 33 (a 26% decrease). The incidence rate continued to decline in week 34, reaching 115.7 per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to 155.9 per 100,000 inhabitants in week 33). The positivity rate has been declining for the fifth consecutive week and stood at 2.2% in week 34 (compared to 2.6% in week 33). This rate is 1.1% among asymptomatic individuals (compared to 1.3% the previous week) and 19.3% among symptomatic individuals (compared to 23.5% the previous week). Following a significant increase in testing activity over the summer, the testing rate declined slightly in week 34, reaching 5,366 per 100,000 population (compared to 5,955 per 100,000 population in week 33).
