COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Nouvelle-Aquitaine as of January 14, 2021

The spread of SARS-CoV-2 continues in the region, with a notable sharp increase in the incidence rate.
In week 01-2012 (January 4–10), the number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases increased, with 8,147 new confirmed cases in the region. The incidence rate has thus risen sharply (+45% between weeks 53-2020 and 01-2021), reaching 135.8 per 100,000 inhabitants. This increase is observed across all age groups, particularly among those aged 15–44, where the rate rose by 55% and remains the highest (183.8 per 100,000).
The positivity rate continues to rise, reaching 5.2% in week 01 compared to 4.0% in week 53. The positivity rate remains highest among those aged 0–14, at 9.1%. The positivity rate among asymptomatic individuals tested was 3.5% (compared to 13.1% among symptomatic individuals); however, this rate varies by age group, ranging from 3% to 4% among those aged 15 and older and reaching 9% among children aged 0 to 14 (a significant increase compared to week 53).
During the first week of January, the testing rate rose slightly, with 2,586 tests performed per 100,000 inhabitants compared to 2,328 per 100,000 in week 53, an increase of 11%.
