Key Points

The outbreak continues in the region - 4th epidemic week

The bronchiolitis epidemic, which began early in week 41 (October 11–17, 2021), continues to spread in the region, with active circulation of RSV, an increase in SOS Médecins activity, and hospital indicators remaining at a high level.

In week 44 of 2021 (November 1–7, 2021), indicators continued to rise in the region, with:

  • 118 SOS Médecins* consultations recorded, representing 10.5% of activity involving children under 2 years of age (compared to 7.7% in week 43);

  • 237 emergency department visits recorded, representing 14.8% of activity among children under 2 years of age (compared to 14.5% in week 43), of which 110 were followed by hospitalization, representing 46.4% of bronchiolitis cases;

  • The proportion of bronchiolitis cases among hospitalizations for children under 2 years of age remains high (34.4% in week 44 compared to 34.0% in week 43); the majority of hospitalizations for bronchiolitis involve children under 1 year of age;

  • RSV is actively circulating in the region, with an increasing number of positive RSV test results.

An increase in bronchiolitis indicators among children under 2 years of age is observed in most departments in the region, with a marked rise this week in Dordogne (29% of emergency room visits and 72% of hospitalizations are due to bronchiolitis) and an increase in SOS Médecins Bordeaux activity in Gironde (11% of activity in week 44 compared to 8.6% in week 43).

*Data should be interpreted with caution due to a strike that has been impacting the operations of SOS Médecins associations since week 39 of 2021.
