Bronchiolitis Surveillance in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Update as of January 12, 2022.
Key Points
The decline in the bronchiolitis epidemic in the region continues, with a decrease in indicators observed over the past 4 weeks. In week 01-2022, SOS Médecins medical visits and emergency room visits are down, as is the hospitalization rate for bronchiolitis. The circulation of RSV is also less active in the region.
In week 01-2022 (January 3–9, 2022):
140 emergency department visits were recorded, representing 10% of activity among children under 2 years of age (compared to 14% in week 52), of which 71 were followed by hospitalization, representing 50.7% of bronchiolitis cases;
The proportion of bronchiolitis cases among hospitalizations for children under 2 years of age is declining (24.9% in Week 01 compared to 32.6% in Week 52); the majority involve children under 1 year of age;
42 SOS Médecins consultations were recorded, representing 5.4% of cases involving children under 2 years of age (compared to 8.2% in week 52);
The proportion of positive respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) tests is decreasing.
At the regional level, bronchiolitis activity is decreasing in all departments, except in the Charente and Charente-Maritime departments, where a slight increase in emergency department activity was observed in Week 1.
