In Nouvelle-Aquitaine: Continued Decline in Emergency Room Visits

The end of the bronchiolitis epidemic was declared in the region at the end of January (week 04-2022). In week 05-2022, the decline in emergency room visits for bronchiolitis among children under two continued, with a decrease in the proportion of bronchiolitis cases among hospitalizations. Activity at SOS Médecins clinics for bronchiolitis remains at a moderate level.

In week 05-2022 (January 31 to February 6, 2022):

  • 77 emergency department visits were recorded, representing 5.4% of activity among children under 2 years of age (compared to 6.0% in week 04), of which 36 were followed by hospitalization, representing 46.8% of bronchiolitis cases;

  • The proportion of bronchiolitis cases among hospitalizations for children under 2 continues to decline (11.9% compared to 15.1% in week 04);

  • 36 SOS Médecins consultations were recorded, representing 4.2% of cases involving children under 2 years of age (compared to 3.8% in week 04);

  • The number of positive respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) test results is decreasing, according to data from the virology laboratories at the Bordeaux and Limoges university hospitals.

At the regional level, emergency room visits for bronchiolitis remain low to moderate across all departments.
