Mental Health in the Normandy Region. Update as of October 10, 2023.

Key Points

  • For most of the indicators derived from Oscour®, the number of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins medical procedures remained stable in the first half of 2023 compared to the first half of 2022. However, these indicators remain higher than the average for the years 2019–2021: these include emergency room visits for mental health disorders, suicidal acts, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and SOS Médecins interventions for anxiety.

  • The number of emergency room visits for suicidal ideation increased by 178% in the first half of 2023 compared to the average figures for the first halves of 2019–2021 (1,250 emergency room visits between January and June 2023).

  • When interpreting activity figures (which are often lower in 2023 compared to previous years), one must account for the overall increase in activity across all causes in 2022 and 2023 (+45% in emergency room visits and +42% in SOS Médecins medical procedures in the first half of 2023 compared to the first halves of 2019–2021).
