Monitoring of regional indicators for "flu-like illness" indicates that activity at emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics increased during week 48 of 2017. It was higher than that observed during the 2016–17 winter season at the same time. This increase has also been observed in mainland France by Santé publique France. The Île-de-France and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions have entered the pre-epidemic phase. Regionally, virology data from hospitals show that influenza viruses have begun circulating, though at low levels.
