Health Surveillance of Winter Epidemics in Normandy. Update as of December 21, 2016.

Key Points

As was the case last week, the current epidemic situations regarding bronchiolitis, acute gastroenteritis, and influenza have prompted us to provide you with a summary of the epidemiological contexts of these three seasonal winter illnesses monitored by Cire Normandie. In fact, the peak of activity related to bronchiolitis in infants has not yet been reached in the region, and this activity is expected to remain at high levels through early 2017. Activity related to acute gastroenteritis continues to rise in the region and remains at high levels. Observations from previous winter seasons show that this activity is likely to continue increasing during the school break. Finally, the increase in activity related to seasonal influenza continued in week 2016-50, marking the start of the epidemic phase in the region. This increase in activity is therefore expected to continue in the coming weeks.
