Key Points
COVID-19
In Week 19, the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 in Normandy continued to decline, with an incidence rate (IR) of 351 per 100,000 inhabitants (-22%) and a positivity rate of 22.2% (-3.2 percentage points).
This decrease in the IR was observed across all departments in Normandy.
In the pre-hospital setting, activity in emergency departments for suspected COVID-19 and the number of SOS Médecins calls were decreasing.
The trend in the number of new hospitalizations in general wards was downward, as was the trend in critical care. This decline was also observed in the number of people hospitalized in these units, though numbers remain high in general wards. The number of deaths in hospitals was also decreasing.
Influenza and Influenza-Like Illness
Transition to a non-epidemic phase
In Week 19, all indicators were once again on the decline. The number of emergency department visits and SOS Médecins consultations for influenza-like illnesses was decreasing, reaching levels similar to those observed in 2019–2020. Activity levels were also decreasing in emergency departments as well as in community settings. The number of isolated influenza viruses was decreasing (3 at Caen University Hospital and 23 at Rouen University Hospital) with co-circulation of the AH3N2 and AH1N1 viruses; 2 type B viruses were isolated.
No severe cases were reported by the intensive care sentinel network in week 19.
Acute Gastroenteritis
The number of emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis across all age groups and the number of SOS Médecins consultations were decreasing. The proportion of SOS Médecins consultations and emergency department visits was at a moderate level and similar to that of the 2019–2020 season.
Among children under 5 years of age, the number of emergency department visits and the number of SOS Médecins consultations were decreasing. The incidence of acute diarrhea estimated by the Sentinel Network was stable and at a level similar to that of 2019–2020.
