Health monitoring of the ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Lower Normandy. June 2014.

Cultural and sporting events will take place in the three departments of Lower Normandy throughout June 2014, with a highlight during the Pentecost weekend. The convergence of specific events from June 6 to 8—namely, the official ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings (likely the last anniversary commemoration of the landings to bring together such a large number of veterans) - the start of the Solitaire du Figaro sailing race in Deauville - the presence of prominent figures - the Pentecost weekend, suggests a significant influx of French and foreign visitors (international mix) to Lower Normandy, particularly in Calvados and Manche.Given these factors and the health risks identified in this type of event, it seemed appropriate to implement enhanced monitoring of the health status of the population in the region, focusing on the official ceremonies during the Pentecost weekend and particularly on the elderly, including veterans, who constitute a more vulnerable population than the general public.
