Heat Waves and Health in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin dated July 9, 2025.

Key Points

  • In light of the extreme heat, Météo-France has issued a red heat wave alert for all eight departments in the Île-de-France region (Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Val-d’Oise) effective at 12:00 PM on July 1, 2025. The alert level was downgraded to orange as of 6:00 a.m. on July 2, 2025. The orange heat wave alert was lifted as of 10:00 p.m. on July 2, 2025.

  • A regional analysis of emergency care utilization indicates an increase in the iCanicule composite health indicator (covering hyperthermia, dehydration, and hyponatremia) for emergency room visits, post-emergency hospitalizations, and SOS Médecins calls since July 1 and, more broadly, since June 29. This trend falls within the expected fluctuations for the current weather conditions and is observable across the region as a whole.
